DD's list of buku tulis (exercise books) :
Bahasa Malaysia - Book no. 2 (2), book no. 4 (3), book no. 5 (1), book no. 9 (1). Total = 7
English - Book no. 4 (2), no. 5 (1), no. 9 (1). Total = 4
Mathematics - Book no. 3 (2).
Agama/Bahasa Arab - Book no. 4 (4).
Science - Book no. 4 (1).
Music - Book no 5 (1).
PJK - Book no 4 - (1).
Total = 20 exercise books.
In case you're wondering, the numbers 0 - 9 are codes for the types of books eg. buku petak besar, petak kecil, 2 baris besar, 2 baris kecil, 3 baris, berbaris dibawah kosong di atas etc. Obviously they have to use codes so as to minimise students' (and parents' confusion).
On top of that, she's also using:
Buku latih tubi (4 books for English),
Buku rampaian (1 each for BM, English, Maths and Science),
Buku latihan (1 each for the aforementioned 4 subjects. Don't confuse this with buku tulis - they sound alike, the covers look alike, but the contents are different),
Buku monitor (BM),
Some other workbooks for BM and Agama/Bahasa Arab.
Also the big booklet for Pendidikan Seni.
Plus the free activity books and text books provided by the Education Ministry.
I was overwhelmed by the list of books. And did I mention that buku tulis, buku latih tubi, buku rampaian and buku latihan are all of the same size and have similar looking covers?
Add to that the other stuff that we had to buy such as buku rekod prestasi, buku peraturan sekolah, fail peribadi murid, buku adab belajar, buku NILAM, PLBS, sports t-shirts, track bottoms, name tags and badges.
DH's reaction: I thought education is supposed to be affordable to all?
My reaction: I only had 2 books at most for each subject in primary school. And I didn't have activity books, workbooks and what nots.
DD's reaction: I'm too busy ...

sekolah bandar mmg macam tu.. so many books untuk latih tubi etc etc, and other books macam buku nilam, rkeod kesihatan etc. etc. itu zaman aida/aini, kalau zaman skrg.. lagilah dahsyat kan.. pening mak ayahnya
aida.. no wonder ramai complain our system is too academic oriented.
statement ameer seminggu selepas masuk sekolah:
"Berat la beg ni. Mama cakap la dengan cikgu, tak payah bawak buku banyak sangat."
kesian jugak since Ameer walks to school & kena naik tangga jejantas. org dewasa pun mengah nak daki inikan lagi budak2 yg lebih kecik dari beg.
tini.. kesian Ameer, esp bab naik jejantas tu. Nasib baik Yasmin keeps all her books at school (except for text books). So she only carries her text books and her homework. May be tini boleh suggest the same to your son's class teacher. Parents can pool funds to buy book shelves to be placed in the classroom.
Ky tgk sesetgh cikgu sek Alim pun ada simpan sesetgh buku teks/kerja murid..mungkin dia org pun dah tgk masalah ni..
Pasal satu subjek byk buku kerja tu..Ky pun naik pening..kita sek men dulu pun tak sebyk tu buku kerja utk satu subjek..
Septtnya kalu dia buat mcm tu..dia kena tentukan setiap buku kerja tu perlu dbawa pd hari apa..sbbnya jika tidak berapa biji buku murid kena bawa utk setiap subjek sehari..
Ky.. itu pasal la cikgu Yasmin simpan semua buku.. classroom penuh dgn shelves. But it's quite organised. Bila nak guna sesatu buku tu, baru la cikgu distribute kat students. Beg pun tak le berat.
Tp kekurangannya bila Cikgu simpan buku ialah kita tak tau pulak anak kite belaja ape..
