Life is a breeze …

well, in December, at least. I say so because:

1. Traffic flow is much smoother and faster. A journey between my house and office which normally takes 45 min – 1 hour is now reduced to a mere 30 min. I could use the extra 30 min – 1 hour saving daily to do anything I wish, namely get up from bed later, play with my Dearest Daughter (DD) or get some housework done.

2. The office is quieter. Many colleagues and bosses are off clearing their annual leave. Less people, less disruptions. I could finish my work at my own pace.

3. It’s the school holiday, and my family makes their year end visit to KL. They take care of DD during the day while my Dearest Husband (DH) and I slog at the office. They cook nice authentic Kelantanese food which will be ready by the time I get home. They keep the house clean and do my laundry. Most of all, I get to be with my family (and this seldom happens) and hopefully keep the family bond strong.

4. There are 1 public holiday and 1 state holiday in this month, namely Christmas and H.R.H. the Sultan of Selangor’s birthday. Not to mention another public holiday waiting to greet us on New Year. Alas, each one falls on a Saturday, which is already a half work day anyway. And the Sultan’s birthday is intentionally set of 2nd Saturday of December every year. But what the heck, it still means something to be able to stay in bed longer 2 days in a week instead of 1.

5. It’s bonus time! I received my bonus last week. It’s not a huge sum, but enough to buy DD some clothes. Speaking of which, my Mother has lamented over the state of DD’s wardrobe contents. Now, I don’t consider myself extremely stingy, it’s just that DD inherits DH’s and my genes and she has grown taller than toddlers her age, as a result of which, she has outgrown most of her clothes. So last Saturday off we went to Sogo and bought DD a pair of shoes, 3 pairs of pyjamas and 4 dresses. DH received his annual bonus yesterday, but that should go into our savings accounts.

6. Almost the whole of Malaysia is on sale! We try our best not to spend over the top and I’m proud to say, we’ve been successful thus far. About the only purchases we made were for a dresser from American Accent and skin care products from Revlon warehouse sale. We’ve been eyeing for a dresser for ages (or 4 years to be more precise) and this one should last us for at least another 4, barring unforeseen circumstances. The Revlon products should last for about 5 – 6 months, so it was a good bargain, I’d say.

Let’s see how I’ll cope in January, when the traffic comes to a standstill, boss just comes back from his holiday, no bonus, no sale. But there’s 1 thing to look forward to, Hari Raya Haji. I’ll save that for another story.
