(Warning : If you have little tolerance for mothers who like to brag about their children’s so-called achievements, please stop reading this post)
I’m proud to say that my 21 month-old DD has mastered two important skills. Over the weekend, she showed us her ability to jump. She goes around the room hopping on her little feet, screaming “jump, jump”. It is not the most elegant move, her legs are wobbly, her body bends in awkward angles, the feet barely leave the ground, but in my eyes my baby has made a great achievement. It was not long ago when she said ‘jump’ and propelled her body upward, but the feet stayed stuck to the ground. On top of that, she can sing too! The other day in the car, the song ‘Tipah tertipu’ was playing on the radio, and DD screamed “tipu”, following the singer. I know, it’s not the best song for a child to learn but I’m proud, nevertheless. She also loves to sing along this nursery rhyme though about the only ‘lyrics’ she could mutter is “iiiii, aaaa, iiiiii, aaaa, a-a-a-a-a” and followed by a giggle: The Happy Wanderer I love to go a-wandering Along the mountain track And as I go I love to sing My knapsack on my back I love to wander by the stream That dances in the sun So joyously it calls to me "Come join my happy song" Valderi, Valdera, Valderi Valdera-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha Valderi, Valdera My knapsack on my back I wave my hat to all I meet And they wave back to me And blackbirds call so loud and sweet From every greenwood tree High overhead the skylarks wing They never rest at home But just like me they love to sing As o'er the world we roam Valderi, Valdera, Valderi Valdera-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha Valderi, Valdera My knapsack on my back Oh, may I go a-wandering Until the day I die And may I always laugh and sing Beneath the clear blue sky Valderi, Valdera, Valderi Valdera-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha Valderi, Valdera My knapsack on my back Despite her achievements, in some respect she seems more than happy to be a baby again. Last weekend my DH offered her the old baby bathtub for her bath. She was more than happy to oblige. Yesterday I could not get her out of the bathtub. She spent about 20 minutes there before my DH managed to convince her to come out. Her independence at the dinner table seems to be compromised too. All this while she insisted to eat on her own but now she likes to play a baby and have DH feeding her. Well, I guess you win some and you lose some! |
you are the most wonderful gift to me and your father ... this jasmine, is for you, my dear...

On unrelated Q on this post:
When is the ideal age for potty training?
nih ada checklist dia that will tell you whether your child is ready to be trained, eg can she communicate her needs, can she walk, etc? age-wise, i read that 18-24 months is abt the right age. you also have to be consistent. been delaying mine coz no maid to take care of the 'waste' and accidents.
